Database Management

This hands-on class is designed to prepare students for employment in the field of high technology.

Creating and maintaining databases is crucial for presenting information in different forms.  Students will learn to build and manipulate databases, back up and retrieve files, organize data into different forms.

Creating databases from GPS points in the form of maps and elevations will be a part of the class. This is an exciting new class using state-of-the art technology.

Hourly class, 1 credit hour, Grades 11-12

Network and A+ Certification

The industry standards for the majority of computer fields have been developed by CompTIA as the A+ certification.

This class prepares students to pass A+ and Network+ exams.  It  covers soft skills, custo- mer service skills, and identifcation and troubleshooting  hardware.  Network+ curriculum includes vendor-independent training which will introduce students to additional operating systems such as Linux.

Hourly class, 1 credit hour,  Grades 11-12

Computer Forensics

Laws concerning  computer information will require professionals who can recover such data when it becomes damaged or lost.

Forensic investigators are in demand:  law enforcement, medicine, government, etc.  Students will use scenarios in the recovery process and step through methods least likely to cause further damage.

This will cover ethical and legal issues, data storage, backup & retrieval techniques and network/enterprise recovery.

Hourly class, 1 credit hour,  Grades 11-12

Water Cooling Project

While working on cooling issues, the class came up with the idea to use plumbing to circulate water in a computer system...here are the preliminary photos:

Quiet Computer Project

The class is in the middle of two case modifications, one is a quiet technique where the mainboard and power supply are submerged in a non-conductive oil.

Here's a little study in fluid dynamics and convection--we removed the cooling fans from a 110-volt power supply and a Pentium 4 computer motherboard and chip. The aquarium was divided into two parts (5 gallons each) in order to try using water on the empty side as an additional heatsink.

Basic fish tank--divided in half                                  Matt                               Water-testing

Following the test for leaks, we checked the components and then installed them in the fish tank. When we booted the computer the oil was installed as we observed the temperature of the CPU in the BIOS.

Check the fit and wiring...                                Dry Power ON!!                          Use only Best Choice oil...

Fans removed--powered up, oiling begins                    Boot screen shows temperature stable

Top view                                          Screen shows OS--tank shows 5 gallons of soybean oil

Thanks to our old buddy at SANTA FE GLASS, Harrisonville. Justin Wyse,
donated materials to partition the aquarium--now (if we can find one) the goldfish
can live harmoniously with the electronics.

4.  If X equals PI times R^2, construct a formula showing how long it would take a fire ant to drill a hole through a dill pickle, if the length-girth ratio of the ant to the pickle were 98.17:1.

5.  Explain the nature of matter.  Include in your answer an evaluation of the impact of the development of mathematics on science.

6.  Take a position for or against truth. Prove the validity of your position.
